Why invest in Bulgaria?

Rental and Investment Opportunity

Now has never been a better time to invest in Bulgaria, with recent times having seen record property sales registered. Holiday apartments in Bulgaria's Black Sea and Mountain Ski Resorts have increased by up to 40% in the 12 months to Dec '04. Forecasters expect prices will continue to increase 20%-30% annually until 2007 at least (the year EU accession for Bulgaria). Bulgaria's tourism sector is well established and has recently become one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in Europe. The number of tourists visiting Bulgaria is expected to reach 4.4m in 2005 and as tourism continues to grow exponentially, rental opportunities for the right property are high.

The country has a number of unique features in it's favour

» Scheduled to join the EU in 2007

» The currency is stable and linked to the Euro
» Full member of NATO
» Established and fast growing tourist industry
» Rapid economic growth ahead of EU membership
» Property prices currently rising at up to 30% p.a.
» Budget airlines expected to start servicing the Black Sea coast from mid-2007 or 2008

Guardian: Bulgaria's Ski Resorts Ridiculously Cheap

It is "crazily, undeniably, ridiculously" cheap in Bulgaria's winter resorts, The Gurdian wrote in an article about the best ski resorts in Eastern Europe.

"In Bulgaria, it's hard to spot the locals for all the English descending here every season. Their increasing numbers have made this the flavour of the month for one reason only. It's cheap. Crazily, undeniably, ridiculously cheap. A three-star hotel for seven nights with breakfast and dinner is from 165 pounds."

The author Flip Byrnes singles out as another advantage the snow cover.

He recommends Bulgaria's two largest resorts, the purpose built Borovets and Pamporovo, the up and comer Bansko in the Pirin Mountains, which in his words is set to become the jewel in Bulgaria's snow dusted crown.

"With a respectable height of 2,580m snow conditions are good, and it boasts the only half pipe in Eastern Europe. The runs are plentiful, running through a forest setting, but the real point of note is heliskiing. At only EUR 50 per person, it is the cheapest ride you'll ever have. It's not Alaska, but then it is also not the standard USD 500 rate."

Bansko is described as a tame yet uncrowded resort, where modern hotels mix with rickety farmhouses and empty-shelved grocery shops snuggle against well-stocked local taverns.
